Hardball Coop’s Thom Henninger was on the road this week, and made a stop in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, for a contest between the low Class A Cedar Rapids Kernels (Angels) and West Michigan Whitecaps (Tigers). Cedar Rapids infielder Alexia Amarista (pictured) impressed Thom with a big day at the plate.

Here’s Thom’s report: “He is listed as 5-foot-8, but I thought he looked more like 5-foot-6. He singled, doubled and tripled in this game, going 3-for-3 with two RBIs in CR’s 3-0 win over West Michigan. Batting third and playing second base, Amarista drove a pitch to deep left-center for a run-scoring triple in the third inning. In fact, all three of his hits were to the left of second base. In the photo, he goes down and gets the ball and slaps it into left field for his single.”

For the season, Amarista is hitting .323/.411/.500 with nine doubles, four triples and 11 steals in 25 games. Last year in the Rookie-level Arizona League he finished sixth with a .332 average and led the circuit with 22 stolen bases.
