By James Bailey After 17 consecutive losing seasons, you’d have thought Pirate fans had seen the worst already. Then came last week’s 20-0 thrashing at the hands of the Brewers, and Pittsburgh baseball had hit a new low. Toss in a 17-3 loss to those same Brewers on Monday and the Pirates are in jeopardy [...]

Pittsburgh Pirates
By James Bailey When the Pirates parted with Jason Bay at the 2008 trading deadline, they took a big step in the rebuilding of a long-downtrodden franchise. They picked up four younger, cheaper players in exchange for their star, who was at that time en route to his third 30-homer season in four years. The [...]
By James Bailey I learned tonight that John Perrotto was fired yesterday from PiratesReport.com. John mentioned in a Facebook post that the site, run by the team, told him they “wanted to go another direction.” Funny, but most Pirate fans are hoping the team will someday go in another direction after 17 consecutive losing seasons.

By James Bailey Garrett Jones is making up for lost time. The Pirate right fielder homered twice Friday night, accounting for Pittsburgh’s only runs in a 2-1, 14-inning win over San Francisco. Those were his sixth and seventh home runs in 12 major league games this year. Not bad for a 28-year-old rookie who spent [...]
By James Bailey The Pirates are at it again. Shaking things up, but not necessarily rebuilding. In the latest round of transaction action GM Neal Huntington sent veteran corner man Eric Hinske to the Yankees for two fringy minor leaguers and partnered with the lowly Nationals to acquire outfielder Lastings Milledge and failed closer Joel [...]
By Ron Thompson Is the National League Central Division the strongest in major league baseball? No one would have thought so entering the season, but as May turned to June it was the only division with four teams above .500, and the fourth place team was the one which had been the consensus choice of [...]
